MALAY ART GALLERY'S....House of  Keris

Keris Lampung Lurus Ulu Perak.

Keris Lampung Lurus Ulu Perak A very rare example of a keris from the southern Sumatran regions of Lampung. The hilt is fully encased with finely repoussed silver, in a bird like form with a squatting poster. Top sheath is made of kemuning woods and in the form of the sabit bulan, or crescent moon. Bottom stem is fully encased with finely repoussed silver.

Straight and very sturdy blade with a rather broad base that tapers to be rather slim at the top. Blade is also very well tempered with the darker shades at the top three quarters.

Pamor patterns are of the mlumah technique and are of the pulo tirto or thousand islands variations. It is said to enhance the owner's material well being.

Condition: Very good condition. Aside from very minor dents at the silver stem cover, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the mid to late 19th century.

Length of blade: 13".   Overall length: 18.7".
