Keris Melayu Anak Alang Ulu Tandok 0722.

Keris Melayu Anak Alang Ulu Tandok 0722 A very good and rare example of a keris from the northern Malaysian peninsular regions of Kedah. Handle in the regional variant of the tapak kuda or horse hoof form, is made from hard buffalo horn, and fitted with a silver alloy ferrule or pendoko. Top sheath in the rare buah bacang form, as appose to the more common sabit bulan or crescent moon form, is made from very well selected kemuning wood, with the less common front split bottom stem made of angsena wood having a horn bottom tip in the patat lipas or roaches’ back form.

Thick, and very sturdy blade with swollen base and rather slim, has an overall shape or dapor called anak alang. Slim with minute and very well executed base features or perabots, it has strong similarities with its longer “cousin’ the keris panjang or executioner’s keris, and its shortest “cousin”, the keris bahari.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the miring and are of the adeg or standing variations which is mystically believed to be able to protect the owner from natural mishaps.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early to middle 19th century.

Length of blade: 17".   Overall length: 22".

Price:- Singapore SGD$430 excluding shipping.
