Keris Melayu Kelantan Bahari Aring Miang 0611.

Keris Melayu Kelantan Bahari Aring Miang 0611 – Fine and rare example of a short keris from the northern Malaysian peninsular region of Kelantan. Handle in the kerdas or pistol grip form and the top sheath in the square tebeng form are made from very well selected kemuning woods with flashing grains. Bottom stem is made from angsana woods having tiger’s stripe grains. A thick and well repoussed brass ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Very sturdy straight blade with prominent spine having double fullers flanking, and very well executed base features has an overall shape or dapor called bahari. It shares strong similarities with its two other longer cousins; the keris panjang (executioner’s) and the keris anak alang.

Pamor patterns are not contrasting as it is the norm of the region not to use contrasting nickel metals, and from the forging lines, the technique is miring of the adeg or standing variations. The base cross piece or ganjar (aring – Malay) shows strong homogenous activity and is called aring miang that suggest the presence of meteoric metals.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.

Length of blade: 10".   Overall length: 13".
