Keris Melayu Luk 5 Ujung Gunung 510.
Keris Melayu Luk 5 Ujung Gunung 510 – A very good
example of a keris from the Malaysian peninsular region. Handle in the pistol
grip or kerdas form, and the top sheath in the tebeng form, are
made from well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains.
Bottom stem is made of angsana wood with tiger’s stripe grains, with a
kemuning bottom tip. A finely repoussed pierced through gold plated silver
ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.
Very sturdy blade with 5 prominent luks or waves and very well executed
perabots or base features.
Pamor patterns shows two different metal combinations. The base background pamor
is arranged in the mlumah technique of the wos utah or scattered
rice variations, while the foreground, brighter pamor in a peak formation is
called ujung gunung. The pamor wos utah is said to enhance the
owner’s material well being, while the pamor ujung gunung is said to
enhance the owner’s status.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century with newly made ferrule or pendoko.
Length of blade: 14.5". Overall length: 18.6".
