Keris Melayu Luk 9 Miang Mas 0312
Keris Melayu Luk 9 Miang Mas 0312 A good and rare example of a keris from the northern Malaysian peninsular region of Kelantan or Terengganu. The hilt in the pistol grip or kerdas form, and the top sheath in the square tebeng form, are made from very well selected ketengga woods, with the bottom stem of angsana woods with tiger's stripe grains. A thick brass ferrule or pendoko completes the fittings.
Sturdy blade with 9 luks or waves with very well executed base features or perabots, having the a silver encased elephant trunk or akut perak in Malay.
Pamor patterns are well arranged in the mlumah technique of the kulit
semangka or melon skin pamor. At certain places, there are layers of
homogenous or 'crystalline' looking metals call miang emas in
Malay.
Condition: Very good condition. Aside from worn out
fretworks or grenengs, rest in very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.
