Keris Melayu Tok Chu Ulu Ukiran 0913.

Keris Melayu Tok Chu Ulu Ukiran 0913 - Very goodd and rare example of a keris from the northern Malaysian peninsular region of Terengganu. Finely carved handle in the jawa demam form and top sheath are made from well selected kemuning woods with flashing grains, with the bottom stem mad of angsana woods. A thick silver ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Very broad and large blade with deep fullers and prominent spine has an overall shape or dapor called tok chu in Malay.

Pamor patterns are not using contrasting nickel metals, but more of high carbon iron or steel. This is the norm for the keris from the region, which stresses more on the practical aspects with the fullers and thick spine, and thus not using weaker nickel metals but stronger iron or steel.

Condition: Ve
ry good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early to mid 20th century.

Length of blade: 15".   Overall length: 20".
