Keris Palembang Luk 9 Petola Ulu Punukan 0618.

Keris Palembang Luk 9 Petola Ulu Punukan 0618 - Another good and rather rare example of a keris from the southern Sumatran region of Palembang. Handle is made of buffalo bone, and is finely carved in the typical Palembang bird like form called ulu punukan. The top sheath in the typical Palembang's boat like form, is made from hard, well grained kemuning woods, with the bottom stem made of angsana. A well repoussed copper/brass ferrule or mendak completes fittings.

Long and very sturdy blade with very sublime 9 luks or waves, has an overall shape or dapor called petola in Malay.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique or the kulit semangko or melon's skin variations, which is said to enhance the owner's popularity.

Condition: Ve
ry good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century, with late 20th century hilt.

Length of blade: 14".   Overall length: 18.5".
