Keris Palembang Lurus Ganjar Seiras 0123.
Keris Palembang Lurus Ganjar Seiras 0123 – A very good and rare example of a keris from the southern Sumatran region of Palembang. Finely carved handle in the rarely seen Javanese influence form, and top sheath are made of very well selected kemuning woods with flashing grains with the bottom stem made of angsena woods with tiger’s stripe grains, and a thick brass ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.
Long and very sturdy straight or lurus blade, with rather plain base features or perabots and an overall shape or dapor called tilam upih in Javanese. The base cross piece or ganjar is made one with the blade, and this rare feature is called ganjar seiras.
Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique of the kulit semangko or melon skin pamor, which is said to enhance the owner's popularity.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.
