Keris Pandai Saras Luk 11 pamor Miang Ulu Serindit 0212.
Keris Pandai Saras Luk 11 pamor Miang Ulu Serindit 0212
– Very good example of a keris from the northern Malaysian peninsular
regions. Handle in the rarely seen cockatoo bird motif called the serindit
with the top heath or sampir in the broad sabit bulan or crescent
moon form, are made from very well selected kemuning woods with flashing
grains. Bottom stem is made from angsena woods with very tight tiger
stripe grains.
Long, thick and very sturdy blade with 11 waves or luks and prominent
triangular spine typical of the region’s styles, with very well executed base
features and an overall shape or dapor called pandai saras
in Malay.
Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique of the beras
tumpah or scattered rice variations, and are not contrasting as it is the
norm of the region to use stronger iron and steel instead of contrasting but
weaker nickel.
The use of the stronger iron and steel allows the blade to be very well tempered
or nyepuh, and is seen from the darker shade along the top three quarter
of the blade.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 18th century blade with mid 20th century fittings.
Length of blade: 15.1". Overall length: 19.5".
