Keris Patrem Banjarmasin Lurus Sepokal 0523 A very good example of a small feminine keris called keris patrem, from the southern Kalimantan  region of Banjarmasin. Finely carved wooden handle in the less common female figurine form having a well repossed silver ferrule or pendoko. Sheath in the typical Banjarmasin gayaman influenced style, is made from very well grained hard kemuning woods,

Short and very sturdy straight or lurus blade, with a thick prominent spine and well executed base features or perabots, having an overall shape or dapor called sepokal in Malay.

Pamor patterns are not contrasting, using no nickel, and are forged in the mlumah technique called pamor kulit semangko or melon skin pamor, which is said to enhance the owner's popularity.

Condition:
Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle to late 19th century.
