Sewah Aceh Sampir Tulang Kerbau 0220.

Sewah Aceh Sampir Tulang Kerbau 0220 - A good example of a side knife or sewah from the northern Sumatran regions of Aceh. Finely carved handle is made from hard dark woods, with the sheath having the top and bottom carved with buffalo bone.

Single edge blade is rather short having the ferrule or metok made one with the blade and minute fretworks at the base, features commonly seen on sewah from the region.

Pamor pattern are arranged in the mlumah technique, of the kulit semangko or melon skin pamor which is said to enhance the owner's popularity.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to early to mid 19th century.
