Keris Palembang Luk 9 Sempana Ulu Fossil Garham 1209 – A very good and rare example of a keris from the southern Sumatran region of Palembang. Handle n the jawa demam form is made form the rare fossilized mammoth molar. Top sheath in the typical Palembang boat like form is made form well selected kemuning woods with an angsena bottom stem. A repoussed silver ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Long and very sturdy blade with 9 sublime waves or luks, has very well executed base features or perabots, with an overall shape or dapor called sempana in Javanese.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique of the kulit semangko or melon skin variation. It is said to enhance the owner’s popularity.
All patterns are unplanned or pamor tiban, and at certain places along the blade there are unplanned pamor tiban that has mystical references.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.
