Badek Bugis Sulawesi Dwi Warna 0413.
Badek Bugis Sulawesi Dwi Warna 0413 – A very good
and rare example of a small knife or badek from the southern Sulawesi region of
Bugis. Handle in the pistol grip for and is made from hard kemuning woods
with a plain brass ferrule at the base. The sheath is made from angsena
woods having a silver clip at the side to assist in useage.
Very sturdy single sharp edge blade with a rather sublime bulge at the top, has
an overall shape called badek kawali.
Pamor patterns are arranged in the miring technique with the base having
g a semi circular formations called batu lapak or saddle stone, and above
it are patterns of the bulu ayam or chicken feathers variations.
The pamro batu lapak is said to protect the owner, while the pamor
bulu ayam is for status use.
With two different pamor arrangements sit is also called dwi warna or bi
colored.
Condition: Very good condition. Minor chip at the hilt’s brass ferrule with rest in very good condition.
Age: Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 19th century.
