Parang Lebar Batak Karo Perak 0911.
Parang Lebar Batak Karo Perak 0911 – Very good example of a rather broad sword from the lesser known Batak Karo region. Handle made of buffalo horn and in the form very similar to the sikkin Aceh. (Not surprising due to the proximity and common Islamic faith). Wooden sheath with typical plain silver bands, having thick and very sturdy that broadens into a flat top is typical of the style.
Pamor patterns are not contrasting as is the norm of the
region preferring not to use nickel, but more of iron and steel metals. Arranged
in the mlumah technique of the wos utah or scattered rice
variations which is said to enhance the owner’s material well being.
The blade is also very well tempered as shown from its darker shades along the
sharp edges, on the top half of the blade where it is quenched during tempering.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.
Length of blade: 19.5". Overall length: 25.5".
